Mallorca's Hidden Food Treasures: Where the Pros Shop

Buying Food in Mallorca: Local Markets and Producers

If you want to buy first-class food in Mallorca, you need to look off the beaten track. The island has a vibrant scene of local producers and weekly markets offering ingredients you won't find in any supermarket. Here are our insider tips.

Mercat de l'Olivar: Best Food Shopping in Palma

The top address for fresh fish and seafood. Delivered directly from the fishermen early in the morning. Our tip: Gambas de Sóller the red prawns from the northwest are a delicacy that needs only 90 seconds per side on the plancha.

Sineu Weekly Market

Every Wednesday, the village of Sineu transforms into the heart of the island. Here you find farmers who have been breeding Porc Negre for generations, handmade Sobrassada and honey from the Tramuntana mountains. The market has an authenticity you will search for in vain at tourist markets. What you can create with these ingredients on the grill, we show in our post about the 5 best Mallorcan ingredients for BBQ.

Oli de Mallorca – Finca Son Catiu

The olive oil from Son Catiu is among the best on the island. The family presses exclusively the autochthonous Mallorquina variety – the result is a fruity, mild oil with green notes that works perfectly as a finish on grilled fish.

Salinas d’Es Trenc

The salt flats in the south of the island produce the famous Flor de Sal. A visit is worthwhile not just for the salt – the flamingo colony in the adjacent nature park is an experience in itself. In the small shop on site, you can find varieties with hibiscus, Mediterranean herbs or smoked paprika.

Bodega Ribas: Food and Wine Shopping in Mallorca

The oldest bodega in Mallorca (since 1711) produces wines from autochthonous grape varieties such as Mantonegro and Prensal Blanc. A full-bodied red wine from Ribas with perfectly grilled meat it doesn't get better than that.
